Summary

This week Drew takes us through the Arthur Conan Doyle saga with the fairies, and how he fell for hoaxed photographs....but we also read some of Doyle's writings on the subject of fae encounters, and they seem entirely rational. We then spend some time reading and discussing the topic of Homo Floresiensis, also known as the "hobbits" of the island of Flores. There are tales of encounters with "little people" that persist on this island to this day, despite the fact that the fossil evidence of these "hobbit" people is at least 12,000 years old, and perhaps as old as 50,000 years. We then move on to tales from Japan, with very similar themes, trickster beings that can be beneficial as long as the humans interacting with them abide by their word.   We will be performing at Howl at the Holler for the annular Eclipse on October the 14th, see the link for details: https://howlattheholler.com/ The Lebanon extension for our upcoming Egypt trip in February has a pre-extension, see the link for details: https://unchartedx.com/site/2023/09/28/feb-24-lebanon-tour-baalbek-still-available-now-with-8-day-jordan-option/   Thanks to all of you who support the show with donations and through Patreon. Description: This episode is a celebration of 200 episodes of the Brothers of the Serpent podcast. (If you're wondering why we did this on episode 201 instead of 200, it's because the podcast starts with episode 002!) Using an extensive list of clips from older episodes, all marked and prepared by listeners, we look back at how the podcast has grown and changed, and mostly at how many dumb jokes we've made. We're joined in studio by Marty, from the UFO episodes, as a representative of the Discord SnakeForce, and they spring a huge surprise on us during the break after the first segment. It was amazing. Thanks so much to all of the Snakeforce in the discord for all the support and the huge list of clip suggestions. Thanks to LP for putting all those suggestions together in a spreadsheet. Thanks to Janus for taking our picks and actually extracting all the clips for us. And thanks to everyone who participated in the super-secret channel to put together the amazing super secret secret!! Hope you all enjoy this, and don't miss out on the special end-of-show mix! Ivan the Peasant's Son

    Release Date: 05/26/2022

    Authors: Dn. Nicholas Kotar

Description: Ivan, the third son of a peasant family, refuses to be left behind when his brothers go to war against a dragonish monster. And a good thing, too! For his brothers prefer snoring to swordplay. After coming into a land scorched by the attacks of the monster, Ivan becomes the last man standing between the monster and the people of the Rus. But the trouble is, there's not one... but three dragonish monsters! And they have dragon-brides too... And a great dragon-mother, the most dangerous serpent of all... In the analysis section, Deacon Nicholas reads some poetry of St Gregory the Theologian that demonstrates a proper patristic approach to reading the parables of Christ. In his heart-felt poetry, St Gregory begins to reveal something very important about the role of the heart in properly reading stories.
