Episode 30 Representation Matters
from Try Not To Overthink It · host Try Not to Overthink It
Hey guys it's RJ, Unique, and Kalhil! In today's episode we're going to be discussing Representation Mattering. Being the "only" or the "token" in a sea of majorities is something that as African Americans we learned to embrace. Representation in everyday life is essential. We all want to feel that we belong and that we can either relate to something or someone. Ever since we were children we consumed comics, movies, and cartoons where there weren't always protagonist/ main characters that looked like us, sounded like us, or came from where we came from. As society has become more progressive, we have come a long way in embracing people of many different nationalities, races, religions, creeds, sexual orientations, as well as socioeconomic background. This growth towards inclusion and away from exclusion has seen so many positive changes occur that I thought it was important that we talk about it in today's episode. Our hope is that our listeners will get something from this deep, honest, and real conversation from the viewpoint of both a Licensed Professional Counselors and a Licensed Social Worker. Stay tuned as we drop new content weekly. If you want to watch this episode we can be found at Try Not To Overthink it on Youtube.
