Powerplay BBC Radio 5 Live Don King killed two men. The first case was ruled justifiable homicide. In 1967 he was found guilty of stomping to death an employee, Sam Garrett, on the street. Garret owed him $600. Released just five years later and later pardoned, King entered the world of boxing, promoting some of the biggest fights in sports history, including The Rumble in the Jungle, and managing the most famous names in the fight game, including Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and boxing writer Steve Bunce tell the story of the controversial life of Don King. Taking Cover It was the worst Marine-on-Marine friendly fire incident in modern history. But it's not in the history books. An explosion in Fallujah, Iraq left three dead, a dozen wounded, and – for high-ranking officials – a dilemma. So, why were the families of the deceased lied to? Why did the reports mysteriously disappear? And why do survivors still have to wonder about what happened on the worst day of their lives? Taking Cover, an NPR investigative series from the Embedded podcast, isn't just a show about unraveling blue-on-blue tragedy during the Iraq war. It's about what happens when we send our young to war. It's a story of betrayal, brotherhood, and what's owed – to families, the wounded and to the American public. What is Owed? GBH News Boston - like many cities around the US - has begun to wrestle with the notion of paying reparations to Black people to make up for 400 years of enslavement and economic exclusion. But in Boston, this debate is layered in history. It was here that slavery was first legalized in the American colonies; it was here that founders of American independence are buried alongside the Black people they enslaved; and it was here that legislation was introduced in the 1980s that became the model of a national bill calling for reparations - a bill that is still on agenda in the U.S Congress. In “What Is Owed?”, a 7-part podcast, GBH News political reporter Saraya Wintersmith seeks to understand what reparations might look like in one of the oldest cities in America, uncovering the lessons for a successful reparations framework through the stories of its architects, past and present. Bitwise & Betrayal: Inside the fraud scandal that shook Fresno Tim Sheehan and Robert Rodriguez It began in 2013 as a promising effort to train and develop a technology community in Fresno. A decade later, the collapse of Bitwise Industries stunned the city, with employees left without paychecks, investors and lenders owed tens of millions of dollars, and the company’s founders facing federal fraud charges.Bitwise Podcast coming December 18, 2024.
