Episode 42 - Whitney Barbary - Breaking up with shame to find emotional healing. Unlock your authentic voice

from Neff Inspiration · host Neff Inspiration

Whitney's story  I went on a downward spiral in late middle school. I went to extreme measures to gain attention and popularity. I got pregnant at 20, I was freshmen in college, I married my child’s father. After 3 years of physical and emotional abuse (and his cheating), I left that marriage. I then went on a string of toxic and abusive relationships. Throw in another pregnancy (of which I didnt know who the father was) and an abortion. A few years after that I married an alcoholic soldier in the US Army. That was a brief marriage of emotional abuse, toxic drinking (my ex husand) and even illegitimate children by my husband and another woman. One night I had hit my breaking point, and I remember crying on my bathroom floor and God asking me “Are you done? Are you done doing things on your own?” The next morning I packed up my things, rented a u-haul and moved back home. I began to pick up the pieces of my life. I did some inner work and healed the wounds that were causing me to repeat toxic cycles in my life. I had to take ownership of the situations I was creating for myself over and over again. I rediscovered God and went on a journey of healing. I eventually found my passion for coaching women to show them how to break up with shame around their past and unlock their own authentic self.   3 top tips 1. Take ownership to become powerful. 2. Break out of a victim mindset. 3. Show up as your authentic self, even when others don’t like it.
