from Confessions of Melanated Docs · host Keisha Butler and Catrina Johnson

The New Year can spark feelings of excitement and optimism. It can also trigger feelings of anxiety.  Do you still believe in new beginnings? It may be cliché, but a New Year, New You might be just what we need. The idea of a blank slate is worth reflecting on. This can be the time to set a new trajectory for our lives, careers, or whatever else we want to change.  A new year can be the time to pivot. Resolutions might not be for everyone, but for many  it is an opportunity to attempt to implement change. Will these changes actually occur? That is another story for a different day. For those who partake in the act of making New Year's resolutions, do you believe in the magic of resolutions? Are we sharing our goals that we want to accomplish? Are we keeping those thoughts to ourselves? In this episode we explore fresh starts, resolutions, and how to set big audacious goals. This is the time to set dreams ablaze and push forward with the wisdom from the past year. As Melanated Docs, we are setting new goals and discussing our process of accomplishing them.  New beginnings await us.  Thank you for deciding to check out our show! This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
