Andrew Johnson was born on December 29, 1808 in Raleigh, NC. He was poor, uneducated, and indentured to a tailor who he ran away from when he was 15 years old. He was a southern Democrat who was loyal to the Union, a contrast to President Abraham Lincoln. Forty-two days after his inauguration, “Andy” Johnson became the 17th POTUS when President Lincoln was assassinated. Andrew Johnson was the 1st president to be impeached, and the last president to own slaves. But was he really an inspiration to country singer David Allen Coe?!
