Episode 68 - Kristy Laschober - Finding my authenticity in a maximum security prison

from Neff Inspiration · host Neff Inspiration

I couldn’t believe I was in prison. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I could survive and that my friends and family could still love me. I learned about myself with the help of other criminals. When I was released, I wasn’t going to tell anyone. Why would I?  When I finally got the courage to share my secret, I was surprised that people began sharing their secrets with me and beautiful connections were made. I started feeling empowered and shame fell away. Today I help others share their secrets. I was a successful wardrobe stylist in Orange County, CA and living a sober life for almost a decade. I relapsed, stopped my business, sold drugs to a priest who was being followed and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. For more than 1500 days I lived with serial killers, transgender bank robbers, mafia wives and the woman who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart. It was horrific and shocking. How did someone like me end up here? I was released 3 years ago and have since graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Oregon University with a BS in Innovative and Leadership.
