The Bradley Method of natural childbirth is a method of natural childbirth developed in 1947 by Robert A. Bradley, M.D and popularized by his book, "Husband-Coached Childbirth" first published in 1965. The Bradley Method emphasizes that birth is a natural process. Mothers are encouraged to trust their body, and focus on diet and exercise throughout pregnancy; and it teaches couples to manage labor through deep breathing and the support of a partner or labor coach. . . DONA or Doulas of North America was formally founded in 1992, and the organization was the first of its kind to both train and certify the non-medical birth support of doulas and marked the start of professional doulas on a nationwide basis. . . CAPPA or Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association is an international certification organization for Doulas, Childbirth Educators, and Lactation Educators. They were founded in 1998 and have certified thousands of perinatal professionals. . . NBDA or National Black Doulas Association connects Black birthing families with Black doulas nationwide. Our overall mission at NBDA is to help fight the Black Maternal Mortality rate in this country and beyond, through educational development and empowerment.
