Episode 8: Review of the Whitney Biennial 2019

Join us for our walk through of the Whitney Biennial, which is the longest-running exhibition in the country and was inaugurated 1932 by the Museum's founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. The Biennial’s mission is to chart the latest developments in American art and we’re excited to try to unpack this large and important exhibition. This year is the 79th edition and includes the work of 75 artists and collectives working in painting, sculpture, installation, film and video, photography, performance, and sound. The Whitney biennial has a long legacy and has become practically an institution in it own right. The visibility that artists garner by inclusion in it creates a special platform and validation of their work. In this edition, for the first time in over a decade the curatorial team has been totally internal: Rujeko Hockley and Jane Panetta reveal statements of resistance with an emphasis on history and sort through divisive national political and social issues. Themes in the exhibition circulate around issues of identity, representation, history, economics, class, as well as a critique on Western hegemony. The biennial spans several floors, outdoor terraces and features film and performance programs."

Episode 8 of the I ART New York podcast, hosted by Izabela Gola, Rebecca Major, titled "Episode 8: Review of the Whitney Biennial 2019" was published on August 2, 2019 and runs 52 minutes.

Utsav Khanna A personal development podcast trying to learn different aspects of life from different mediums of knowledge, art and pop culture. Each week is a new discovery. We live in a very fast world and can’t care about all things at once. But we take one piece of art or concept and take from it what we can. As a species, if only we open our minds to learning and not judging things, a lot will change. Every piece of art, whether visual or otherwise, can teach us something so invaluable that it changes us or at the least, validates what we already know. So why not learn from everything around us? The Vinyl Detroit Podcast The Vinyl Detroit Podcast “@DetroitVinyl has been my favorite new podcast discovery. So far listened to interviews with @Teenbeat463 , Sarah Records, @GlennDonaldson (sadly no Der TPK mention) and Rocketship (some great nuts and bolts info on the recording process). Thoroughly enjoyable!” - Auxiliary Out Blog“I just listened through when I was out walking in the Glasgow rain - this is such a fantastic episode.
