Escaping Abuse Through the Power of Self-Education – Maria Carrion

Connected Leaders Academy At just 13 years old, Maria Carrion was removed from the school system and placed into a relationship with a 21-year-old man who subjected her to years of emotional and physical abuse. As a non-English speaker and the eldest daughter of a mother struggling with heart issues and four other children, Maria’s life took a turn few could imagine. Her mother, believing she was protecting Maria, unknowingly placed her in harm’s way. Tragically, her mother passed away at the age of 41, and Maria was never allowed to return to school. Despite the trauma and isolation, Maria became a mother of four—three daughters and one son—with her abuser. Through resilience and a deep desire to change her life, she turned to books, psychology, and self-education. With no guidance but her will to survive, she taught herself English, earned her GED, a degree in Occupational Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in psychology. Today, Maria Carrion is a domestic violence advocate, certified life coach, speaker, and author of Fighting All Battles Into Success. Through her brand, Maria Carrion Authors Services, she offers coaching programs focused on empowerment, goal-setting, money management, mindfulness, and healing. Her message is one of hope, transformation, and reclaiming your voice—even in the face of unimaginable adversity.
