Las voces de Concha Piquer, Juanita Reina, Miguel de Molina, Angelillo o Juanito Valderrama forman parte de su banda sonora personal. Asiste personalmente al entierro de Concha Piquer y prologa el libro Juanito Valderrama: Mi España Querida de Antonio Burgos.[15] En 2003, declara que él hacía copla a su manera, canciones como Romance de Curro el Palmo o Pueblo blanco, podrían considerarse cercanas a este género
