A movement scientist and epidemiologist, he is a professor at the Amsterdam UMC Department of Public and Occupational Health and the Amsterdam Movement Science Research Institute. He leads the Amsterdam Collaboration on Health and Safety in Sports which is one of a very select group of International Olympic Committee Research Centres for the Prevention of Injury and Illness. He is also Editor in Chief of BMJ Open Sports & Exercise Medicine.
