Expanded train timetable needed between Sligo & Longford -Nealon

A request is being made at today's Sligo County Council meeting to explore the possibilities of running an expanded timetable for trains between Sligo and Longford. The routes being sought are a daily commuter service running from Longford to Sligo arriving between 8.30-8.45 am, and a daily night time service running from Sligo to Longford at 10-10.30pm. Currently there is no train that arrives in Sligo in time for start of the working, school or college day While it's claimed that a night time train would also encourage the evening time economy of live events and hospitality. Sligo Fine Gael Cllr Fergal Nealon is making the proposal and says it could open up new opportunities for people:
