It may appear like God is putting a crushing weight on couples in the Song of Songs because most of us are not anywhere near the ideals played out by the pair in this book. But God is not saying, “This is how it’s supposed to be in your life.” He is singing to you a song of what can be. He wants this song to heal you. He's saying, ”Look, this is my gift to you. Yes, you're broken but I fix broken things.
