Financial Fridays + Coach Colette Unplugged
from Start Within w/Coach Colette · host Coach Colette Ellis
Contributions to the field of mental health by Black practitioners have been long overlooked. In this week's Financial Fridays episode, you'll learn more about Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller, one of the first known Black psychiatrists. Solomon Fuller’s major contribution was to the growing clinical knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease. In 1903, he was one of the five students chosen by Alois Alzheimer to do research at the Royal Psychiatric Hospital at the University of Munich in Germany. While practicing at Westborough State Mental Hospital in Westborough, Massachusetts, Dr. Fuller performed ground-breaking research on the physical changes to the brains of Alzheimer's patients. When you watch a movie or TV show, do you imagine yourself in the shoes of the lead character? How often does the actor portraying that character share some or all of your identity traits? In this week's Unplugged segment, Coach Colette shares another personal anecdote about her A-HA moment while watching Lupin on Netflix. She also discusses the emotional tax shouldered by women of color and how this burden impacts all facets of their health and wellbeing.
