Fireflies: Rethinking the North American Energy Economy
from North Capital Forum
Energy is foundational to all aspects of North American prosperity. Today, the energy space across the continent is characterized by dynamism and significant emerging potential industries from well-established oil and gas sectors to a burgeoning renewables space. The region also possesses a wealth of critical minerals which have taken on renewed importance in the context of modern energy requirements in addition to geopolitical competition. All of these industries have critical roles to play if the United States, Mexico, and Canada are to provide access to secure, reliable, and affordable power as well as navigate the global energy transition. This panel presented a holistic view of the North American energy ecosystem, with an emphasis on navigating the energy transition. In particular, it examined the role of natural gas and mining as two critical sectors for making the transition possible. Finally, it considered vulnerabilities in the North American energy infrastructure, and identify avenues to increasing access to energy in historically underserved regions.
