🚨 FLOOD WARNING - Arkansas Weather 3/14 - Evening
from The Arkansas Weather Podcast
Good evening. Arkansas. I'm Michael Mosby. Folks. We're enjoying a calm and mild start to the weekend. Step outside and you'll feel temperatures sitting in the low 70s under mostly cloudy skies. It feels more like late April than mid-March. You'll want to enjoy the relative quiet while you can, because a potent weather system is taking shape to our west. The drama arrives Sunday. A powerful cold front will sweep statewide, bringing a line of strong to severe thunderstorms. The main threat will be damaging winds, potentially gusting over 60 miles an hour. There's also a low risk for a brief tornado within the line, in Central Arkansas, expect storms to fire up after 2 P.M. The high hits 75 degrees early, but temperatures will crash into the 50s by evening as the front passes. Moving on. Head north and the timeline speeds up, while northwest Arkansas sees storms between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M. Highs reach the mid-60s before plummeting into the 40s. Down in Northeast Arkansas, you're not in the clear until after 3 P.M. Some storms there could be severe, with a high near 70. Temperature-wise. The story doesn't end Sunday night, the real shock is the cold. Once the rain clears, temperatures plummet, lows by Monday morning drop into the 20s statewide. Wind chills will make it feel like the teens, here comes a hard freeze for much of the state. This is a massive swing, going from 75 degrees Sunday to freezing Monday morning. Looking ahead, the cold snap is brief, while by Tuesday, highs rebound into the 50s under sunny skies. The warming trend continues mid-week, with highs back in the 70s by Wednesday. We could see temperatures nearing 80 degrees by Friday and Saturday. This Sunday, keep a close eye on the weather alerts. See you tomorrow.
