🚨 FLOOD WARNING - Kentucky Weather 3/14 - Evening
from The Kentucky Weather Podcast
Good evening. Kentucky. I'm Michael Mosby. Here's the thing. Today is the calm before a very big storm, you're stepping out into 62 degrees under gray skies. It feels mild, almost spring-like, but don't get used to it. A powerful system is gathering strength to our west. And it's dragging a cold front straight for us. As the sun sets. Sunday turns windy and warm, highs range from 73 to 78 degrees statewide. That warmth comes at a cost. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 A.M. Sunday to 8 A.M. Monday. South winds will gust 40 to 50 miles an hour, while that's strong enough to snap tree limbs. Secure your trash cans and patio furniture tonight. The main event arrives Sunday night, a line of strong storms hits Western Kentucky around 8 P.M. It races east, reaching Lexington around midnight, the primary threat is damaging winds. Rain changes to snow showers quickly early Monday as temperatures crash. Monday is a shock to the system, highs drop to the 30s. Wind chills will feel like the teens, light snow accumulation is possible. By Tuesday morning, lows bottom out in the upper teens, that's running 15 degrees below normal for mid-March. The weather settles down mid-week, wednesday brings a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Highs rebound to the 50s, by Friday, sunshine returns with highs near 70. Looking ahead. Charge your phones now before the winds knock out power. — See you tomorrow.
