From Afghanistan to Netherlands- Ft. Ezzat Muhseni

from Inswinging Yorkers · host Sushant Tiwari

01/12/23- I had the privilege of talking to Amsterdam Cricket Club Zomi's young captain Ezzat Muhseni (a.k.a Tazze), who comes from Afghanistan and started following cricket early in his life, but fell in love with it once he joined ACC. Within four years time, he has gone from being game's absolute rookie to the captain and highest run-scorer for ACC Zomi in 2023. We talked about how he got introduced to the game, how he improved leaps and bounds, his love for Afghanistan Cricket Team, and my favourite part was when he shared some hilarious anecdotes about his current team (especially how he got his name Tazze, which is spelled Ezzat in reverse!!) If you're interested in learning more about Afghanistan's Cricketing Journey, I suggest this documentary Cricket In The Shadow Of War on Al Jazeera Network. Hope you enjoy the episode as much as we did. For any improvement suggestions, please leave a comment. Thanks, Sushant

Evelyn; or A Heart Unmasked by Anna Cora Mowatt Ritchie Loyal Books Evelyn is a two-volume novel told in an epistolary style – alternating between letters from the point of view of a trusted, unmarried female friend of the young, naïve heroine of the novel and those of the feckless adventurer who decides that he must seduce the beautiful Evelyn. The author, actress/novelist/playwright Anna Cora Mowatt, was a fan of the works of Fredericka Bremer . This narrative is heavily influenced by that writer’s style. Like Mowatt’s hit comedy, “Fashion,” the plot centers on the misadventures of nouveau riche family social climbing in New York society of the late 1830’s. Whereas the play was comedy, the novel turns towards tragedy. The author still spices her narrative with strong doses of social satire, however, and gives us many revealing glimpses of everyday life of New Yorkers of the early 19th century. - Summary by Kelly S. Taylor NYC NOW WNYC NYC Now helps New Yorkers understand the city through original reporting and sharp analysis from WNYC and Gothamist. The show digs into the news, culture, and conversations shaping life in New York, three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, hosted by Janae Pierre.
