Using the prodigal son, we see how pain from things we cannot control, the trickery of believing money and possessions can satisfy, separation from the father and from faith, and the lack that comes with famine can drive us away, yet that same pain can create a pause that allows us to come to ourselves and pivot in a new direction. When we find the courage to embrace our dark place and turn back to God, we discover that He is waiting with forgiveness, favor, and food, restoring us to sonship we do not deserve and satisfying our longing with a good thing no matter what we have done.
