Fuel, Train, Run: Inside Ultra Endurance with Gustav Simensen

from Sportiverse Podcast · host joel.donikian

Gustav is an endurance athlete, dabbling in ultra running, marathons, half marathons, mountain biking and road cycling. He recently participated in the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships and ran the Singapore Marathon in 2024. At 15 years old he embarked on a project of running 100km in 24 hours. Running, cycling and racing is his passion, having participated in numerous running and ultra running events.  In this episode, Gustav and myself start off by talking about his attempt to run 100km in 24hours at just 15 years old. We dive into his training programme preparation, mentally as well as physically, and the actual race day experience, including fuelling, resting and emotions.  Further into the podcast we speak about his recent participation at the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships. We speak about the concept of the Championships, and dive even further into the nutrition talk. We speak about the best ways to fuel for ultra running and sports in general, as we go through carbohydrate intake, electrolyte importance and much more.  We end the podcast by speaking about the Singapore Marathon 2024, in which Gustav participated and how Gustav has balanced all his sports with school and now work.  If you are an aspiring ultra runner, then this is the exact podcast for you. However, if you’re just a sports enthusiast and want to know more about running, nutrition, fueling and training, then you too are in the right place!
