Gary Roberts on The Cam & Strick Podcast

from The Cam & Strick Podcast · host Gary Roberts

Few stories can match what former Stanley Cup winner Gary Roberts went through as a player. A serious neck injury forces him into retirement at the age of 30. But life without hockey proved to be too much of a struggle for Roberts, he wanted to return to the ice, would anyone take a chance on a player with his injury issues? After seeking out opinions from multiple Doctors, the consensus was, the risk was too high for an NHL team to take him on. The Calgary Flames eventually traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes where GM Jim Rutherford, going against the opinions of medical professionals, said he was willing to take on the risk. It proved to be life-changing for Roberts who went on to play 12 more seasons and finish his career with over 1200 games played and 400 goals. Today Roberts is one of the most successful off-ice trainers in the game. He has a facility that attracts some of the biggest names in the NHL. From Connor McDavid to Steven Stamkos, to Mathew and Brady Tkachuk, Roberts is widely recognized and trusted as one of the smartest in the industry. He was known to be ahead of his time throughout his playing days when it came to strength training and he's put that knowledge to work with his state-of-the-art facility in Toronto.  Roberts gets very emotional telling his story in this must-listen interview with Cam and Strick.
