Georgia Weather 3/9 Morning - Record Cold

from The Georgia Weather Podcast

Good morning. Georgia. I'm Aaron Jolly. That fog wrapping around you this morning? Thick as cotton candy after yesterday's rain. Visibility dropped to a quarter mile overnight, but it'll lift by late morning when sunshine punches through. Metro Atlanta climbs to 79 degrees today with partly sunny skies. There's a slight chance of showers around 6 P.M., but most of you stay dry. Down along the coast. Savannah hits 82 degrees once the fog clears. Eastern Georgia takes the warmth crown — 84 degrees with mostly sunny skies after patchy fog lifts by mid-morning. Here's where it gets interesting. Tonight, a line of thunderstorms develops across western Georgia between 6 P.M. and 1 A.M. Some storms could turn strong to severe with damaging winds and small hail. The threat is highest between I-42 and I-42. Metro Atlanta sees a 5042 degrees shot at showers and storms, with lows around 62 degrees. Coastal areas stay partly cloudy with a slight rain chance after 5 A.M. and lows near 64 degrees. Tuesday brings scattered showers, especially north of I-42. Highs reach 78 degrees in Atlanta and 83 degrees along the coast. Here's your heads-up for the week. Wednesday turns exceptionally warm — 82 degrees in Atlanta, 84 degrees on the coast. And 87 degrees in eastern Georgia. We could threaten record highs. But Wednesday night brings a cold front with widespread thunderstorms. Thursday crashes to 62 degrees with storms clearing by afternoon. Friday turns crisp and sunny with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 40s. The weekend warms back into the upper 70s. In Spring equinox is just 11 days away. Sunrise at 7, 57 A.M., sunset at 7:41 P.M. We're gaining over 2 minutes of daylight each day. See you this afternoon.
