Get Behind Me | Pastor Brian Hall
from citylife church
The spirit of offense is something the enemy uses as an undercover plot to disrupt the plans and purposes of God for our lives. Offense can end relationships and tear families apart. When God intends to promote us the enemy seeks to destroy us. We often see this happen through offense creeping into our lives after a moment of revelation and elevation. In Matthew 16:13-18 Peter has a revelation of who Jesus is, which opens the door for Jesus to speak over Peter and ultimately change his name from Simon to Peter. Most times after we have a divine moment with God the enemy will find an opportunity to steal or distort that God moment. One of the more common and successful ways is by planting seeds of offense in our hearts and minds. These seeds grow over time, they become like trees which develop roots. Roots in bitterness, offense and unforgiveness. Instead of allowing us to become subject to offense Jesus intends to protect us through his love. In Matthew 16:22-23 we see Jesus say “Get behind me, Satan!”. As Jesus addresses Satan he instructs Peter to get behind him as he turns his attention to the root of the issue — the one behind the offense, Satan. God intends for us to be rooted in love, Ephesians 3:17 and from that place of love protect and guard the hearts of those around us. Looking past the person and addressing the root.
