Isaiah 7:14 is an Old Testament prophecy about God's promise to send a Messiah, born of a virgin, whose name would be Immanuel. When the angel explains to Joseph Mary's pregnancy in Matthew 1, he cites the coming baby as the fulfillment of that Old Testament prophecy, interpreting the name, Immanuel, as meaning "God with us." The name Immanuel as given to Jesus represents 3 truths about God's presence in our lives: 1) It represents the PROMISE of God's presence with us 2) it represents the REALITY of God's presence with us; an 3) it represents the DESIRE of God to be with us.
