Governor Josh Shapiro is joining two dozen other states in suing the Trump administration over food stamps.

from Pittsburgh All Local

Governor Josh Shapiro is joining two dozen other states in suing the Trump administration over a decision that could cut off food stamps for millions if the federal shutdown continues. Nearly two million Pennsylvanians could lose access to snap benefits next week — including 300,000 in southwestern Pennsylvania. Governor Josh Shapiro and other Democratic governors filed suit Tuesday, saying the Trump administration’s refusal to release $5 billion in reserve funds will cause “irreparable harm.” The lawsuit warns of rising hunger among children, more pressure on local food banks, and lost business for thousands of grocery stores that accept SNAP benefits. Shapiro says the administration is using food assistance as a political bargaining chip — the first time in history SNAP benefits could be paused during a shutdown.
