Great Allegheny Passage Closure Alert
from Pittsburgh News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Get ready for some trail closures on the popular Great Allegheny Passage—two miles between Whitaker and Port Perry will be shut down July 9th through August 6th for critical landslide prevention work. A smaller section near Kennywood closes just one evening, reopening the next day. Safety first: crews are clearing unstable hillsides to stop rocks and trees from falling. To help travelers, a free shuttle runs daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM starting July 10th between Homestead and Duquesne—$20 per person, cash preferred. The Conservancy’s covering part of the cost, or hop on Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s 59 or 61 C buses. Long-term? They’ve secured $4.3 million of the needed $8 million for permanent fixes.
