Gregory Borchard traces this history in A Narrative History of the American Press (Routledge, 2018). Borchard is a professor at the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is the editor of Journalism History, a quarterly scholarly journal.
