Alavandar's head was in the lab and Doctors confirmed the headless body found on the train matches the head. Police launched an investigation into the case which pointed towards Devaki and Menon. For the first time in the history of Indian Police investigations, a state Police team was sent to Bombay (now Mumbai) to catch the culprit husband and wife.
