High Wind Warning | Montana Weather
from The Montana Weather Podcast
Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Montana Weather Podcast — it's Wednesday, February 25th. That dusting of snow overnight? Barely a tenth of an inch. The real story is what's happening next.. A 20-degree temperature swing that'll have you questioning if winter just gave up. Out east, rain showers wrap up between 4 A.M. and 7 A.M. You bottom out at 34 degrees around 5 A.M. Then watch the thermometer climb. By 3 P.M. you hit 54 degrees. Feels like 27 degrees early, but that warmth takes over fast. Winds gust to 23 miles an hour around 1 P.M. Head west and you get a brief flirtation with mixed precipitation around 5 A.M. Then skies clear. You peak at 42 degrees by 4 P.M. Steady west winds around 10 miles an hour. Tonight drops to 28 degrees by 2 A.M., with wind chills near 21 degrees. Central Montana stays bone dry. Morning lows around 30 degrees at 5 A.M. climb to 48 degrees by 4 P.M. West-southwest winds howl around 22 miles an hour. Wind chills dip to 22 degrees early. Two alerts matter. A Winter Storm Warning runs until 5 P.M. today for the Beartooth and Absaroka Mountains. Another 4 to 8 inches up there. And a High Wind Warning kicks in tonight for Phillips County. Gusts to 70 miles an hour through Friday morning. That's the kind of wind that moves things you didn't know could move. Your week ahead.. Thursday pushes near 60 degrees out east. Friday a cold front crashes through with light snow Friday night into Saturday. Temperatures drop back to the 30s and 40s for the weekend before warming early next week. We're gaining over 3 minutes of daylight today. Spring equinox is three weeks out. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
