🚨 HIGH WIND WATCH - Rhode Island Weather 3/15 - Morning
from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast
Good morning. Rhode Island. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside this morning and you might actually believe winter is over, you're waking up to 38 degrees under clear skies. And that overnight chill of 30 degrees is fading fast. We're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight today, pushing us past 11 hours and 53 minutes of sun. You'll hit a high of 46 degrees this afternoon — exactly normal for Providence in mid-March. It's a perfect morning to grab a coffee at the coast. As the sun sets. But here's the catch, don't get used to the quiet. A warm front lifts north tonight, bringing clouds and rain toward morning. Lows drop to about 33 in the city, but temperatures actually rise overnight while you sleep. Monday brings a soaker, rain starts early and continues all day. We could see up to an inch of water, with highs hitting 59 degrees. That warmth comes with a price. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for Monday afternoon through Monday night. South winds could gust up to 60 miles an hour, while that's strong enough to snap tree limbs and knock out power. You'll want to keep the phone charged today. The front clears Tuesday morning, skies turn mostly sunny by afternoon, but it gets colder. Highs only reach 44 degrees, with a stiff west wind making it feel cooler. Tuesday night brings a hard freeze, temperatures crash to 22 degrees in Providence. The Bay drops to 24, while it's even colder inland. Wednesday stays sunny but brisk, highs top out near 38 degrees, running well below average. Thursday sees a slow recovery with partly sunny skies and a high near 44 degrees. Friday looks pleasant. Highs climb back to 50 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Saturday brings more clouds, with a chance of rain by afternoon and highs near 48 degrees. Looking ahead. Secure those loose trash cans today before the wind hits them tomorrow. — See you this afternoon.
