Hopes Ballyshannon Hospital will reach full capacity by end of 2024
It's emerged that the new multimillion euro Ballyshannon Community Hospital is not taking on short term patients. The facility officially opened its doors earlier this year after intense negotiations between the INMO and the HSE over concerns around planned staffing levels. While long term patients are currently being cared for on site, it's reported that several beds are lying vacant. The HSE says that efforts are underway to enable the hospital reach its full capacity and that the next unit to be opened will be the 20 bed short term unit. Speaking on North West today, Fine Gael Cllr Barry Sweeney says its envisaged that every bed will be open by the end of the year:
