Elizabeth spends some time reflecting on her relationship with booze this episode and how it’s changed since back in the day when she was relying on Mommy Juice to get her through life. She vents a bit about the intense marketing of booze to women and the story we’re fed that it’s unquestionably fun and relaxing. If this strikes a little chord with you, she includes a couple books (of course) that you may want to check out and see if maybe, just maybe, it’s time to reevaluate your relationship here. Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a World Obsessed with Alcohol by Holly WhitakerTempest – Holly’s online sobriety communityWe Are the Luckiest: The Surprising Magic of a Sober Life by Laura McKowenAlcoholic Anonymous (hey, it works for a lot of people)Women and Alcohol – what the scientists sayRadiant BadassChris Martin, Creativity Coach  Radiant BadassChris Martin, Creativity Coach

    Bloodsucking Feminists

We are the Bloodsucking Feminists, your number one Scottish-Kiwi podcast focussed on the three Fs: Fangs, Feminism and Fangirling. Once a month we will be discussing a different vampire-related text – which means not just books and movies, but also comics, video games and even musicals – from an intersectional feminist fangirl perspective. Nothing is free from problematic content, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find something to like too. So join us as over the next few months we discuss the Big 3 of British vampire fiction, totally not squee over Tom Hiddleston and Marc Liebisch, translate the foreign language that is Kiwi culture and hate on Michael Crawford and Roman Polanski (for very different reasons, of course).

Two friends have had a book club for a very very long time. It was mostly an excuse to drink and gossip. In January of 2016, they found renewed purpose in their sadness over the death of David Bowie. They decided to stop mucking around and actually get some reading done - from the list of books that he loved.

    Embrace The Void

Welcome friends, to a podcast for a darker timeline. Maybe the darkest of all timelines. Definitely not one of the good timelines. Maybe it’s always been a dark timeline, maybe the Hadron collider screwed us over. Science may never know. What we do know is that we live in the void. The void, a place where a chittering mass of void crabs can infest a person suit and win the presidency. The void, a place where we're just clever enough to know that climate change is happening, but not quite clever enough to do anything about it. The void seems terrible and cruel, but it loves you, in its own ironic way.

The team is awakened before their demise more than 150 years later than expected and team up with a previous surviving project member and a local big game hunter to survive in the world and possibly make it a better place. Equipped with the latest in scientific and military technology when they were frozen in 2018, they have a technological advantage over the few survivors of World War III and the fall of modern society, but is it enough to survive the harsh world that awaits them.

  • Galaktacus

    08/18/2020

Jim Kettner, John Mihaly, and Scott Brown

The name Galaktacus originates from a youthful mispronunciation of a classic comic book character best known for eating planets. Before all of the blockbuster film franchises and the non-stop spoiler-filled internet coverage there was limited space to openly discuss such topics let alone their proper pronunciations. ("Is it Mag-neato or Mag-net-o?") So with that in mind, what started as a long-running, inside joke has now become a word that best defines the spirit of this podcast—looking at comic books, sci-fi, film, television, music, literature and gaming from the perspective of individuals who have grown up in this evolving "nerd culture" and are amazed by the ways in which it has taken over the mainstream. Galaktacus attempts to eschew that "angry nerd" character and celebrate the good, the bad and the weird that comes along with this current golden age of pop culture. So let the devouring begin!
