How Muslims May Navigate Christmas and the Holiday Season

from A Conversation with A Purpose · host Brother Furqan

Many people are familiar with "white privilege," but how many of us have considered the ramifications of "Christian privilege"? Join WORDS-MAKE-PEOPLE on Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 1-3 p.m. EST for a lengthy conversation on, "How Muslims May Navigate Christmas and the Holiday Season." Sura (chapter) 22: Ayat (verse) 67 of the Qur'an reads, “To every people have We appointed rites and ceremonies which they must follow: let them not then dispute with thee on the matter, but do thou invite (them) to thy Lord: for thou art assuredly on the Right Way.” Al-Islam obligates Muslims to respect the sacred days of Christians and Jews. As Muslims, we must follow the Holy Qur’an and the example of Prophet Muhammed, prayers and peace be on him. What does Allah say in the Qur’an that may shed light on how we are to respond to Christians and Jews during this “Holiday Season”? There were many Christians and Jews living with Prophet Muhammed in Medina and the other surrounding cities. We must ask “How did Prophet Muhammed relate to Christians and Jews during their special holidays 1,400 years ago?” As Muslims, we too believe in the virgin birth of Christ Jesus, and we greatly honor Mary his mother. We accept that Christ Jesus’ best role is that of a true, sincere, and determined servant of G_d. So we, as Muslims, are not removed from acknowledging the special birth of Jesus Christ. The difference is in our position, that Jesus is not G_d nor the son of G_d, but an undeniable Messenger-Prophet of G_d.
