How Plants Saved My Life : My Background, Expertise & Passion

from Journey Out of the Bottle · host Melissa LeAira

My Personal Story about How herbs, nature, and conscious recovery changed everythingI drank for 35 years.I was a working mother, a wife, a career woman trying to do it all — managing kids, relationships, expectations, pressure, and ambition. I WAS LIVING THE "PRESCRIBED LIFE" !!And like so many of us, I drank. It was normalized. It was rewarded. It was everywhere. At the same time, I spent decades working in the natural products industry — with mission-driven, fair-trade brands, plant stewards, ethical farmers, and companies rooted in reverence for the Earth and human health. I worked with elixirs, creams, raw materials, and living plants. I saw firsthand how plants are grown, cultivated, harvested, and respected for their potency and intelligence.I also watched what happened when large chemical and mass-market corporations bought up many of those natural brands — and how we are now seeing similar patterns emerge with pharma, mushrooms, and cannabis. In this video, I talk about:The realities of drinking culture and survivalMy experience inside the natural products worldThe difference between whole plants and isolated compoundsSeeds, soil, cultivation, harvest timing, and potencyWhy plants are alive — not passive ingredientsAnd the importance of rapport with plantsThe turning point came when I asked a therapist for a prescription for anxiety and panic attacks — and instead, she recommended a natural, plant-based route. That decision — and those plants — saved my life.Even while I was still drinking, herbs supported my sleep, my immune system, my nervous system, and my resilience. And when alcohol was removed, my body, mind, and spirit were able to recover far more quickly with the help of plants. This is not about replacing one dependency with another. It’s about supporting the body’s innate ability to heal.Today, I coach and support people who are choosing (or curious about) an alcohol-free lifestyle, helping them thoughtfully and safely incorporate herbs and plant allies as part of nervous system repair, emotional regulation, and embodied recovery. This is about:Education, not dogmaEmpowerment, not shameNature as ally, not commodityIf you’ve ever questioned your relationship with alcohol…If you’ve felt dismissed, over-medicated, or unheard…If you’re curious about plant-supported recovery that honors the whole human —This conversation is for you.#PlantsSavedMyLife#AlcoholFree#SobrietyJourney#HerbalHealing#PlantMedicine#NervousSystemHealing#AnxietyRecovery#HolisticHealth#BodyMindSpirit#NaturalWellness#ConsciousLiving#FunctionalPlants#HealingWithPlants#JourneyOutOfTheBottle#RecoveryRedefined This episode is also available as a full video experience on YouTube. Support the showCheck out our YouTube Channel - Lots of 'great' content.  Some of it is Cringy, some of it is Silly...and some is Sober & Somber - but all is in hope & inspiration towards a Higher Consciousness without Alcohol messing with the system.https://youtu.be/vy2DNnAx8VA
