Glyn Roberts is Chief Executive of RetailNI, Northern Ireland’s only locally based retail and wholesale business organisation which provides professional advice and gives a voice to the independent sector at the NI Assembly and Westminster. Glyn is very passionate about helping retailers and keeping the high street very much alive. Retail NI Advice Line provides help on rates, planning, employment, law and many other issues that impact upon businesses. They have a dedicated Business Liaison Support and hold networking events with leading political leaders and policy makers. They ensure voices are heard at Local Councils, Stormont, Westminster and European Parliament. RetailNI supports local suppliers in developing new routes to market. In this episode Glyn talks about the challenges facing retailers today and offers advice on what needs to be done in order to help at the present time. He talks about what the twenty first high street looks like, what RetailNI are working on and what advice they are giving to support businesses. Also in this episode, we hear from Derek Wright, Director of Streetlife and Menswear Retailer, Developer at The Precinct with over 20 New Startup Businesses and President of Newtownards Chamber of Trade. Derek talks about the challenges in business and a huge challenge that nearly finished his retail career. However, by working collaboratively he has been able to "rise from the ashes" and bring the high street to life in Newtownards.
