John believes that to live fulfilling and happy lives we must cultivate the best relationships possible. In this episode, he will explain some of the best ways to achieve this, whatever type of relationship it is including partners, family members, friends, colleagues or acquaintances. KEY TAKEAWAYS Be present and intentional. The modern pace of life can hinder spending time with others and distract you if you do.  Do not interrupt, and clarify what you hear. This requires empathy which is another component in building connections.  Communicate openly and clearly. This is the foundation for a successful relationship. This can bridge any gaps in wants and needs in the future. Validating and empowering each other through being generous in response can be essential in making each other happy. Celebrate your successes. Joint achievements and celebrating your partners successes will increase the bond between you.  Learn how to self-soothe. If you can manage your own wellbeing you can then be more present with others.   BEST MOMENTS ‘As human beings we have developed as a species to need, crave, in early life to survive through connecting with others.’   ‘Make a conscious effort to be present and focused on your interactions. Put away your phone and anything else that could distract you.’ ‘If you are putting yourself into a perceived vulnerable space then you don’t feel safe and rather than being able to be present your mind will be racing off into another space entirely.’ ‘One word that I don’t really like when it comes to finding a healthy balance in relationships is ‘compromise’. On the whole this is seen as a word that means you are giving something up and in your brain this can trigger all sorts of resistance.’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Link to another podcast episode: New Year, New Relationship? Brother Blaq1-" The Relationship Guy" Rob Gregg My podcast is about relationships and family. My goal is to help people make the right choice in mate selection. The only way we can grow as people is to look at our own lives and confront the truth. The saying is true, " the truth can set you free!! When we are totally free from the past, then and only then can we attract the right "purpose mate". Together with Nikhil Chinapa Nikhil Chinapa Together is a way of celebrating the relationship between you guys, the community that makes this show so special, and us, the team that puts the show together. Together, we/'re going to do amazing things. The FootPol Podcast Francesco Belcastro and Guy Burton The podcast that brings together football and politics. We'll be exploring the relationship between the two, both inside and outside the game. The podcast covers "Big Politics" like politicians, clubs, international and national federations and other organised groups and how they use or abuse the game to "Small, Everyday Politics" in the form of community-level clubs, fan associations and the way that football reflects the political challenges of our day to day lives. The FootPol Podcast is brought to you by co-hosts Drs Francesco Belcastro and Guy Burton. The Billy Madison Show Cristine Billy holds a Master’s Degree in Business from American International University and attended Mankato State in Minnesota, but don’t hold that against him. He is a collector of Star Wars memorabilia, autographs (seriously), and a self-admitted ”dork” (but in a cool way of course). Derek is Billy’s ”right hand man” and offers his opinion on many topics but he will honestly admit he’s ”not a political expert or expert on a lot of things” and ”never went to college” but neither did Bill Gates (ok Gates went, but dropped out) but so what? ”Nard” (also known as Nathan) is a former listener of the show that was given a job after Billy helped him find a girlfriend. The relationship with the girl didn’t last but Billy and the guys liked Nard’s ”wit” and offered him a chance to be on the show one day and he never left. Nard has won over 50 Gold Medals in The Special Olympics and supports causes that help place special needs individuals in appropriate jobs and careers, just as he has done.
