Raj Tut is joined by Les Sterman, Chair of Citizens for a Greater Downtown St. Louis. Prior to retiring and taking on numerous volunteer positions, Les was Executive Director of the East-West Gateway Council of Governments for over 25 years. He was directly responsible for restoring flood protection for the large area in Illinois across the Mississippi River known as the American Bottom. He was also directly responsible for some of the Council’s largest and most visible projects, including conceiving and planning the transformational MetroLink light rail system. Les’ principal areas of professional interest are in the development of healthy, sustainable communities and metropolitan regions, shaping metropolitan scale public policy through the cooperative action of local governments, and the cost-effective development of major capital projects. He has written articles for a number of local and national publications.
