Congregation: 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. Leader: 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. Congregation: 16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. Leader: 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Everyone: 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. How To LOVE One ANOTHER, Pt. 1 1. You need to realize GOD wants your LOVE to be REAL. Romans 12:9 (ESV) – Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Romans 12:9 (NLT2) – Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 1 Timothy 1:5 (ESV) – The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Peter 1:22-23 (ESV) – Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 1 John 3:18 (NLT2) – Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. How To LOVE One ANOTHER, Pt. 2 1. You need to realize GOD wants your LOVE to be LIVED. A. Your love is LIVED when it hates EVIL. Romans 12:9 (ESV) – Let love be genuine. Abhor – 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (ESV) – Abstain from every form of evil. Psalm 34:14 (ESV) –Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. Psalm 97:10 (ESV) – O you who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked. B. Your love is LIVED when it is COMMITTED to what is GOOD. Hold fast – Luke 6:35 (ESV) – But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Galatians 6:10 (ESV) – So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Hebrews 13:16 (ESV) – Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. C. Your love is LIVED when it is SHOWN to others. Romans 12:10 (ESV) – Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10 (NLT2) – Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
