What is an upper limit?

Gay Hendricks defines it as the highest level of good and success your nervous system allows you to have in your life.

Shaped by childhood and lifestyle, they are encoded into our systems and go off whenever we receive an amount of good that we aren't comfortable with.

This innate "fear" mechanism holds us back from getting the best out of our relationships.

Tune in to this episode: How Upper Limits Affect You In Your Relationships

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ Get rid of limiting beliefs. It's been ingrained in us early on that we're fundamentally flawed, that when we experience green flags in our relationships, we're quick to doubt our worth and expect something to go wrong somehow.

✔️ Catch the upper limit. When you catch yourself saying lines like:

  • "This is too good to be true."
  • "Why are good things happening to me? I don't deserve this."
  • "Something bad will eventually happen. I know it."

Take a step back, and embrace the flow of goodness by following two simple steps.

✔️ Upper limits can show in many ways. It can be when paying for a fancier hotel room, getting a better house, or experiencing a date that ticks all the qualities of your dream partner. Give yourself the permission to experience the best things in life. You are worth it!

✔️ Shift your thinking to appreciation. When the upper limit hits, quickly think of something you appreciate about your partner and something you've done recently that you're proud of.

✔️ Communicate your upper limits. Have a partner, friend, family member, or anyone you trust, and talk about it. It's best to have someone whom you can be accountable with.

✔️ Expand your limits to have more in life. Start developing that capacity to receive the best. Hone that inner voice to say, "I deserve to have all my goals and desires." You have the strength and intelligence to reach your full potential.
