Four-star General Pete Chiarelli served as the 32nd Vice Chief of Staff in the Army and led the Department of Defense efforts on post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury and suicide prevention. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Army and its 1.1 million active and reserve soldiers. As commander of the Multi-National Corps in Iraq, General Chiarelli coordinated the actions of all four military services and was responsible for the day-to-day combat operations of more than 147,000 U.S. and Coalition troops. In 2013, he received the Patriot Award, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's highest honor for his work to help soldiers and families suffering from the invisible wounds of war.
