I John 3:5 & 8 - The Root Problem - Sin

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Tuesday August 3 The Root Problem - Sin 1 John 3:5 & 8 “You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin….. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. It appears today that we don’t really want to recognize the root problem that is destroying our lives. We can easily say, we have issues or we have problems or we have challenges.  But it’s rare today to hear someone say, “I have sinned!” We have both a culture and a humanistic religion in our world today that wants to get rid of the word sin. Before we can get saved or begin to live the life that brings real satisfaction, contentment and peace into our hearts and lives we must acknowledge sin! Jesus did not just come to make us a better person! He did not come just to help us deal with our issues or problems! Jesus “appeared in order to take away our sins”. Remember Jesus said in John 10, that “the thief, who is the devil, came to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come that you might have life and that you might have it more abundantly!” We are born with a sinful nature that we inherited from the first man, Adam. (Romans 5) We are told that “our heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, who can know it.” (Jeremiah 17:9) The Apostle Paul proclaimed that “Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” Sin is rebellion against a holy God. Sin is disobedience to God’s Word and His known will. The essence of sin is pride. I am my own god and I know better than God, and I can decide what is right and wrong, and what is best from my own life! Wow! Doesn’t that sound like the culture and the philosophy of the world around us today? The Scripture acknowledges that there is pleasure in sin for a season.  (Hebrews 11:25) Sin attracts but then it attacks! Sin fascinates but then it assassinates. Sin thrills but then it kills! We must acknowledge our sin personally! “If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:10) And we must believe that it was our sin that nailed Jesus to the cross to suffer in our place and take our penalty of death for us! Some of the most beautiful words in all the world are, “He came to take away sins!” Today, do you know that your sin has been taken away? God bless!
