I stopped sending Japanese-style New Year’s cards years ago.The routine started to feel more formal than meaningful.Still, there is one paper letter that continues.Every December, a Christmas card arrives from a couple in Canada — people I met years ago while participating in the Ultraman Triathlon in Hawaii.
