Importance of cash payments highlighted at Council meeting
This month's meeting of Sligo County Council has heard calls for a continuation of cash payments. Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom MacSharry put forward a motion urging the Government to recognise the importance of cash as a means of payment. He says notes and coins are crucial to prevent the exclusion of vulnerable groups, such as the elderly. Councillor MacSharry says Ireland shouldn’t be at the mercy of the banks which he claims are forcing us to be a cashless society:
