**TRIGGER WARNING: UPSETTING/DISTRESSING CONTENT**Ireland South MEP Kathleen Funchion has said she “did the right thing” in speaking publicly about her experience of coercive control by a former partner, because it had encouraged many women and their families in similar situations to seek help.She has also said politics had become so toxic for women that she thinks she wouldn’t get involved if she was starting out today.In an interview with the Irish Independent at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, she detailed how she fulfilled her role as a TD and frontbench spokesperson for Sinn Féin while suffering abuse at the hands of her ex.Sean Tyrell was sentenced in April under the Harassment and Harmful Communications Act – what is known as Coco’s Law – to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.Kathleen bravely joined us on the Agenda this morning to tell us more about her story.
