THE PRACTICE OF PERSONAL BIBLICAL SEPARATION Today’s Session I. The Need to Separate II. The Purpose for Biblical Separation III. Is Biblical Separation against Unity? IV. Personal Biblical Separation Q&A But what have you and I to do with maintaining our influence and position at the expense of truth? It is never right to do a little wrong to obtain the greatest possible good... Your duty is to do the right: consequences are with God. – C.H. Spurgeon (I) THE NEED TO SEPARATE Why do we need to separate from some movement, groups, organizations, and even individuals? Without understanding their aims and practices, you may find it difficult to see the need for separation from them. The Bible have warned us, 1Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2Pet 2:1-2 (1) But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. B) Denominations and Institutions Biblical separation does not mean we cannot attend churches of other denominations when we are away. But in a time of great falling away, we must only attend churches which are sound. Some trends in Christendom that we should separate from include: 1. Methodists: Social action lies at the root of the Methodist movement.7 2. Presbyterians 2.1. Bible-Presbyterians who believe in non-cessation of sign gifts or are antagonistic to VPP 3. Baptists 3.1. Southern Baptists - held conversations with United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs from 1978 to 20018, eager participants in the evangelistic ministry of Billy Graham, contributor to American Bible Society, will work with secular Americans and Roman Catholic leaders in common cause for social issues.9(III) IS BIBLICAL SEPARATION AGAINST UNITY? A) Calls for Inclusiveness 1. Common arguments of anti-separatists include: a. Openness is maturity b. Separation is narrow minded c. Doctrines divide, service unites (WCC slogan) d. Focus on the positive, not the negatives e. Focus on our commonality, not differences f. Don’t be so dogmatic g. Separation is unloving and hurts the body of Christ B) True Biblical Unity 1. Php 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 2. Joh 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. ....====Bible Passage (KJV): 2 Peter 2:1-21 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.====Series on Biblical Separation Bible Presbyterian Church of WAFriday 21st September 2018To view the series playlist, use this link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6oRJqo2x8mlbP43Dg7IwPWTo watch this video on YouTube, use this link: https://youtu.be/pMoixRxLQVUIf you were helped by this recording, please share this with someone who would benefit from this.
