Is Protestantism the Antichrist? (The Patrick Madrid Show)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

You may have theories as to who the Antichrist is. Got any hot takes? A listener named Marie posed a gripping question: Can Protestantism be considered the Antichrist? Patrick Madrid addressed this intriguing question directly. He confidently asserted that Protestantism, as a movement or phenomenon, should not be labeled as Antichrist. To support his stance, he turned to the Bible, referencing specific passages that describe the Antichrist, primarily focusing on the denial of Jesus Christ. Patrick shared several key verses to back up his argument: 1 John 2:18: This verse reflects the early Christian belief in the impending arrival of the Antichrist. 1 John 2:22 & 4:3: These passages define the Antichrist as someone who denies Jesus and does not acknowledge His divinity. 2 John 1:7: Here, the focus is on deceivers who do not accept Jesus Christ's coming in the flesh. Emphasizing these biblical references, Patrick clarified that, according to these definitions, Protestantism does not and cannot align with the characteristics of the Antichrist. He pointed out that Protestants recognize Jesus as Christ and His divine nature, which biblically excludes them from any association with the Antichrist. So then it's settled.  However, Patrick didn't hold back from expressing his perspective on Protestantism as a "grievous wound" on Christianity, describing it as a rebellion against the Church's established authority. Obviously, Jesus wants everyone to be Catholic because this is the Church he founded. Despite this, he concluded that it doesn't qualify as the Antichrist. 🎙️ Intrigued?
