ITC: 143 - Using Guided Notes in the Classroom

One tool that can turn a lecture from a passive activity to an active one is guided notes also known as skeleton notes. Guided notes can also be used for grasping the essential content from videos and reading assignments. According to William L. Heward, a professor at the Ohio State University, Guided Notes are "Guided notes are instructor-prepared handouts that provide all students with background information and standard cues with specific spaces to write key facts, concepts, and/or relationships during the lecture." Guided notes can help students stay on task while listening to a lecture, watching a video, or reading a chapter. This can lead to increased academic performance.
