In other words, as Christ-followers we should constantly be in relationship with someone who is spiritually a step ahead of us and with someone who is spiritually a step behind us that we can help bring forward. By doing this, we are creating a beautiful chain of ongoing discipleship – one where we are each always being mentored AND mentoring someone else. If that kind of commitment sounds scary of overwhelming, just remember that Jesus discipled 12 guys – and the primary way he did it was by living life ALONGSIDE them. Mentorship doesn't need to be formal or stuffy, it can be as simple as having dinner or taking a walk. Ask yourself this question, do you have a hand forward AND a hand back?
