Jakob Lass (1981, München) ist ein deutscher Filmregisseur und Drehbuchautor.. Bereits im Alter von neun Jahren sammelte er erste Bühnenerfahrungen, später kam eine Schauspielausbildung hinzu, bevor er – nach mehreren Absagen deutscher Filmhochschulen – ab 2009 Regie an der Filmuniversität Babelsberg “Konrad Wolf” studierte. Der Durchbruch kam mit Love Steaks (2013), einer improvisierten Liebeskomödie, die beim Filmfest München den Förderpreis "Neues Deutsches Kino" in allen vier Kategorien gewann. 2014 folgten der Max‑Ophüls-Preis sowie eine Nominierung als Bester Film beim Deutschen Filmpreis. In Tiger Girl (2017) thematisierte Lass die eskalierende Freundschaft zweier junger Frauen im Milieu der Sicherheitsdienste. Der Film feierte Premiere auf der Berlinale und startete im April in den deutschen Kinos. Sein darauf folgender Film So was von da (2018), eine improvisierte Romanadaption, hatte seine Uraufführung auf dem Filmfest München. Jakob Lass ist bekannt für seine radikal improvisierte Herangehensweise: Er arbeitet mit einem dramaturgischen Gerüst statt traditioneller Drehbücher, lässt Dialog und Szenen vor Ort entstehen und pflegt Kooperation im Kollektiv.
